Recorded by GEOFF KEEZER on WAITING IN THE WINGS
Sunnyside: SSC 1035D / Recorded September 16, 1988
||Medium up (3/4 [9/8])
GEOFF KEEZER ranks as one of contemporary jazz's brightest young stars. Recording with the Jazz Messengers at age 17, the pianist has since proven his early promise and emerged as a major recording artist and composer. Also see his big band arrangement of James Williams' Beauty Within.
Front Line: B-flat, E-flat, C treble clef, Vibes, C bass clef
Rhythm Section: Piano, Bass, Drums, Guitar
Accra is in triple meter. This energetic arrangement features an effective use of a unison front line and a not-so-common 9/8 feel which turns into a 3/4 swing to really groove in triple meter. The head is not hard to play and it provides a good vehicle for working on intonation. There's also a great interlude that can set up a soloist.
SOLOS: The solos feature some difficult changes but each chord gets at least a full bar so there's enough time to say something before moving on to the next change.
